The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative engineering and research team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models and works on projects across the entire deep learning life cycle. The team spearheads the platform and innovation for conversational search and the core copilot experiences across Microsoft’s ecosystem including Bing, Office and Windows.

In addition, the team also works on improving experiences across Microsoft’s products and services by working on high value scenarios. The Turing team has shipped capabilities across many Microsoft scenarios including AutoSuggest, Microsoft Word’s new find feature, quick reply on Outlook, Smart Compose features in Word, image enhancement models, recommendations, enterprise search capabilities for Microsoft Sharepoint as well as many other features across Office, Bing, and Xbox.

These new experiences are powered by a large-scale deep learning-based enterprise search and question-answering systems built by the team, which processes billions-to-trillions of data items and serves millions of end users in millisecond latency.

We are looking for engineers with a variety of skills and areas of expertise, from backend infrastructure of large-scale system to microservices and to front-end development. – Bachelor’s/Master Degree/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience
– Proficiency in programming languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python
– 7+ years of commercial systems level software development experience, with one or more of the following: Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval and/or Data Mining, Machine Learning fundamentals.
– Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.
– Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems at internet scale.

As a Principal Software Engineer on our team, you’ll be responsible for and will engage in:
– Driving projects from design through implementation, experimentation and finally shipping to our users.
– Building large-scale high-performant distributed system to improve experience across Microsoft products
– Design system through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions
– Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
– Gain a working understanding of Microsoft as a business and collaborate with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.
– Working with big data by training, extending, and shipping the capability of deep learning models to provide compelling experiences across our products.
– Working in a diverse geographically distributed team environment where collaboration and innovation are valued.
