The Linux Systems Group is building the Linux based technologies at Microsoft, and we are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our team in IDC. If you are the one who is interested in working on Linux and open-source projects; build and lead highly motivated team that participates in creating and delivering the next generation of technologies that powers Azure’s private and public cloud infrastructures, that is currently impacting millions of customers across the planet. Job Purpose:
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who can drive results by leading from the front as a full-stack developer, serving as a mentor to the team, and show thought leadership in architecture and solutioning. The ideal candidate will play a significant role working with other senior Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Architects across Microsoft to identify opportunities, collaborate and deliver impact. You will be working in a team that has a lot of AI/ML scope and opportunities providing opportunities for learning and growth.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS in computer science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in Linux or FreeBSD kernel design & development
- Understanding and hands on experience with the Linux or FreeBSD kernel and its core functionality like memory management, process scheduling, networking, storage, file system, etc.
- Competent in designing, developing, debugging, and validating excellent products.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external entities (open-source communities, standards bodies, customers and/or partners)
- Passionate about quality and engineering excellence as one needs to work as an all-rounder engineer focusing on Dev, Test, and Support
- Knowledge in C, Python and one of the modern programming languages like Rust will be a boost
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- A history of contributing to the Linux kernel or other open-source projects
- Technical passion, terrific problem-solving skills, and self-motivated.

Responsibilities:
Our team plays a key leadership role in Azure by driving Linux and open-source technologies, solutions, and strategy. In this role, you will work closely with internal and external customers, coordinate design and coding across multiple projects, and partner with independent teams in disparate geographic locations. You will work closely with upstream open-source projects, representing Microsoft as a strong community partner and contributor.
You will be working on research and development in cutting edge accelerations and optimizations to power future public and private clouds. You will define and push the limits of innovative technologies — working with the latest hardware, the largest servers, and even larger datacentres.
